Full Wall Street Raider screenshot.ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - The St. Louis Police Officers Association says it has filed an unfair labor practice complaint against the city of St. Louis over the city's latest decision to break off contract negotiations with the police union.
The City has filed for an injunction in federal court in the St. Louis division to stop union members from voting in a ratification referendum. The City claims the union is acting in bad faith by attempting to use taxpayer money to put a referendum on the ballot for a contract that has not been negotiated with police officers.
The federal complaint argues the union's conduct is in violation of state law as well as the federal Sherman Anti-Trust Act.
In a letter to the mayor and the city attorney, the union calls the city's move "retaliatory."
A binding arbitration hearing with the city has been scheduled for October 12th, and the union says the referendum delay is meant to intimidate the officers into ratifying a contract they have already voted to reject.
The St. Louis police officers have been without a contract since November of 2016, and the union contends the City has done nothing to address the issues that led to that contract being called off.
A few weeks ago, the City agreed to a one-year extension of the last contract with the police union. That contract, which expired in June of 0b46394aab
